ARTISTIC ENDEAVORS

WORKS BY ANITA BURGESS

My name is Anita Burgess. I graduated with a BFA with a major emphasis on drawing and painting. I have always been driven to create. I love experimenting with multiple mediums, even if the final result is not up to par, I feel I learned something in the process. I think there are three constant things in my art. One, I like to draw into the subject, two, I love colour, and three I normally sign my name so one has to hunt for it.  I was fortunate to have a woman who believed in me and became my mentor, Doris Spoonamore. She was an artist in her own right, my first art teacher. With her encouragement, I kept up with my art after getting married and having two boys.
I graduated with a Fine and Applied Art Degree with an emphasis on drawing and painting from the University of Akron, in addition of receiving my certification to teach K-12. After graduation, I was employed with the Farmington Local School District where I taught 3rd thru 12th grades.
I moved to Houston, Texas and lived there for approximately 25 years. There I belonged to the Northwest Art League, Collage Society of Texas, and the Houston Watercolour Society. There I also became involved with Chinese watercolours. I spent many years painting under the wings of the artist Pei Hong Endris, a well known artist in China and in the Houston Area. I returned to Akron upon retirement and am happy painting and drawings.
I have my work in private collections. I am a member of Akron Society of Artist, National League of American Pen Women, and the International Society of Experimental Artist.  I have been associated with the Northcoast Collage Society, Women's Art League, Texas Collage Society. I had been in local exhibitions in Ohio and Texas. I have a painting in the permanent collection in the Hoyt Museum located in Pennsylvania.
